The Friday Exhale: 5 Thoughts on the Week

I am getting new prescription glasses: the lenses of the ones I have now are scratched and, more importantly, my vision has changed, at least in one eye. I still don’t need glasses to see up close, but I definitely need to update my lenses to drive more safely in the dark. I think it would be hilarious if I could get glasses like these. Not sure how others would react . . . Look at that crazy old lady! What are those dangly bits?! I’d be smiling at the world all day long. – Maria

One of my favourite mocktails – orange juice, carbonated mineral water with blueberries and raspberries. It is so refreshing after a good workout! Do you have any favourite mocktails you like to mix up after a long day’s work? Share in the comments below. Cris

My son sent me this after I have frantically asked him one too many times for tech help; today, it turned out to be that I didn’t have the printer plugged into the computer. Duh! Senior moment? Brain fart? He is so patient, thank goodness. What is your main strategy for getting the tech results you want? – Maria

I have a growing number of spider plants in my house. They are the easiest plants to take care of (a watering every week or two when they start drooping a bit) and when you search for lists of “plants that are good for your home” the Spider plant is always on the list. They’re like having an air purifier in your home. I currently have three but am thinking of taking some of those baby spiders that have are growing and potting two or three. The more plants in the house, the better the air quality. And living in a metropolitan area means there’s always going to be air quality concerns, especially with the dwindling green spaces. Cris

I have a growing collection of paint chips. But I have the hardest time deciding what colour to use on my walls. I have at least 5 different shades of white and I am having the worst time deciding which one to choose. How do you decide? Maybe I should look at the work of some of the designers I like and see what whites they tend to use. What is your strategy? Cris

I have to say I do not have the some love for the spider plant as you do Chris. My youngest daughter has a green thumb, as did my mom. Recently my sister gave her one of my mom’s spider plants, well over 30 years old. My daughter decided that I should have a cutting. She presented me with a lovely pot with a number of baby spider plants drooping down. All I could see were my windows from the 70s and 80s with an array of spider plants hanging from their macrame hangers. I really didn’t want to see another spider plant. My daughter was taken aback to learn that years ago I had tossed out the macrame hangers which I’d made, and which had been sitting in a bag for decades. Supposedly they’ve made a comeback. Sorry to say, the plant didn’t make it in my house.

Yes, Liz, macrame has definitely made a comeback with the DIY crowd. I remember my mom had a couple as well back in the day. As for the spider plant, I have to say, I like it because it cleans the air, and especially when there are no “spiders” hanging down from it. It’s definitely time to cut those little spiders off!
