The Friday Exhale: 5 Thoughts on the Week

It’s Friday again! How did it get here so fast?! Here are some more bits and pieces that have made their way through our consciousness this week; useful, whimsical, fun short reads to make you smile and reflect and maybe even do some repairs on your own!

I don’t really know why rainbows happen. It has something to do with water droplets . . . I do know that they are fleeting, enchanting, tantalizingly out of reach above us and yet so soothing. I think of hope and dreams and Judy Garland and leprechauns waiting with a pot of gold and spirits lifting.

This week’s tidbits are focussing on women, as we mark International Women’s Day.

Amelia Earhart: first female pilot to cross the Atlantic Ocean

One of the little boys I tutor has recently become fascinated by biographies, especially those of famous women. One of the women he has written about, and then enthusiastically shares remembered facts and asks questions about every week, is the incredibly brave and determined Amelia Earhart. She was the first female pilot to fly alone across the Atlantic Ocean. We looked up Atchison, Kansas, her birth place, as well as the location on the Pacific where her plane disappeared during her attempt to fly around the world approximately over the equator.
