Taking a Break: See You in the Spring

 My sister, Cris, and I have come to a crossroads in our life journeys. We’ve been planning, writing, taking photos, networking, trying to build and expand The Shine and Rise, working to turn into something that you, our audience, will enjoy and that we can be proud of creating and sustaining. Meanwhile, of course, the rest of our lives have continued to unfold; we’ve been busy with jobs, our homes, and taking care of our mother and making decisions and modifications as her health declines. Of course, our children are always top of mind. A critical piece of the puzzle is our mental and physical health because if that is not okay, the rest becomes far too stressful to manage successfully.

The Relationship Between Quiet and Truly Hearing

If you read last Friday’s Exhale, some of the following reflection will sound familiar. The quotation about quiet and hearing more struck a chord with me. Too many of us, including me, spend too much time with our phones or TV. As I remind my mother, there are definitely positives to modern technology, such as being able to communicate with distant loved ones or watching programmes that truly inform and uplift us. However, so much of it is mental clutter, unnecessary and detrimental to our wellbeing. We are surrounded by external noise, which worsens our internal noise, leading to stress, anxiety and our increasing inability to truly hear ourselves and those around us.
